Wohngeld Guideline Values by Household Size and Rent

The following table shows guideline values for Wohngeld in Berlin (Mietstufe IV for all of Berlin, as of 2026). Select the row that matches your household size and the column that most closely matches your monthly gross cold rent (including utilities, excluding heating).

The values shown are monthly guideline values in euros. The actual amount may vary depending on income, rent and other factors.

Note: These guideline values are based on the Wohngeld table 2026 (Mietstufe IV, Berlin-West) and serve only as orientation. The actual Wohngeld amount is calculated individually by the responsible Wohngeld office. All information is provided without guarantee.

How to Use the Wohngeld Calculator

Follow these four simple steps to determine your expected Wohngeld entitlement:

1. Determine household size
   Count all persons who permanently live in your apartment and for whom you have signed the tenancy agreement. This includes yourself, your spouse or partner, and your children (including adult children in education).
2. Determine monthly gross cold rent
   The gross cold rent includes the basic rent (net cold rent) plus cold operating costs (e.g., water, wastewater, waste disposal, building cleaning). Heating costs and hot water are not included. You can find the exact amount in your tenancy agreement or the last utility bill.
3. Read the guideline value from the table
   Find the row for your household size in the table and the column that is closest to your rent. The value shown is a guideline for your monthly Wohngeld. If your rent falls between two values, you can interpolate or use the nearest value for orientation.
4. Take income into account
   Wohngeld is granted on an income-dependent basis. The higher your income, the lower the Wohngeld. The table shows maximum values — your actual Wohngeld may be lower. You can find the exact income limits on our income limits page.

Please note the following points when using the calculator:

• The Wohngeld calculator provides guideline values and not a binding calculation. The actual amount of your Wohngeld entitlement is determined exclusively by the responsible Wohngeld office.
• Your income has a direct influence on the Wohngeld amount. The closer your income is to the income limit, the lower the Wohngeld.
• The values apply to all of Berlin: since the Wohngeld-Plus reform, the entire city has been uniformly assigned to Mietstufe IV.
• Students and trainees who receive BAföG or vocational training assistance generally have no entitlement to Wohngeld. However, there are exceptions — find out more on our special cases page.
• Since the Wohngeld-Plus reform, more employees with low income also receive Wohngeld. Don't be put off by preconceptions — check your entitlement.
